How we handle affiliate links
The editorial firewall that prevents affiliate commissions from influencing what gets ranked first.
The firewall
The writer drafts the article based on testing data. Editorial picks the order and the 'best' option without reference to commission rates — and is intentionally not told the rates during this stage. Affiliate links are inserted by an editor after the order is locked.
If the highest-ranking option happens to also be the highest-paying affiliate, we'll note that explicitly. If we ever rank a tool higher than testing supports, we'll fix it as soon as we catch it and document the fix.
Disclosure standards
Every article that includes an affiliate link has a disclosure box near the top and follows FTC endorsement guidelines. Every affiliate link uses the rel='sponsored' attribute. Where natural, we visually mark affiliate links with an upward-arrow indicator.
